There was just a lot of account suicide topics that day and a bunch of them quickly got to 500 posts before they got modded (CE was super active back then. Topics sometimes wouldnt stay on the front page for more than a minute). Then after all that was modded, CJayC (the admin at the time) came in and posted a topic with the exact same title as the one he posted on LUE when he walled them off from the rest of the site. (something like "An important announcement for CE"). So at a glance, everyone was like "Oh fuck! Is CE about to get the LUE treatment and get closed off?" But then he just posts "500 topic, go!". It was such a psyche and everyone got that topic to 500 posts in like 30 seconds.
