Replace "mutants" with any marginalized groups and it feels like the humans who demonize the x men are the same as modern conservatives. How did I miss that as a kid? They even say crap like "pro mutant propaganda" like modern grifters say "gay propaganda"

That scene where beast is in jail reading a book and the guards insult his intelligence and treat him like an animal. It is clear what they are comparing this too.

Indeed. The writing was better than I remembered.

I mean yeah, unlike the recent episodes, it does feel like they wanted kids to easily understand at time and some one liners are still a little cringey, but so many of the allegories are good. It really made me understand that the talking points of bigots didn't change much over time.

It's easy to miss the message as a kid since typically we're not looking for things like that (hatred of minorities in a kid's cartoon) or just don't make the connection that X represents Y. Plus I'm sure that our worlds felt smaller and we didn't have nearly as much communication back then as we do now.
