2016 was fun. Yea you have to get up and close to maximize some kills to get resources but it felt like what Doom was supposed to be better than Doom 3.

I must be one of the few who loves Doom 1 but hates Doom 2. Sure the super shotgun and added monsters are great but the level design took a huge step back and the final boss is so annoying to kill.

The levels in Doom 2 are more creative for sure but also really labyrinth like and just very odd at times. I think I like those two about the same though. I did have Doom for Windows.

But I also played Doom on Playstation 1 a lot so that was amalgamation of both games with missing levels, new levels, colored lighting and a different ambient soundtrack.

The only classic Doom games that i've played were 1 and maybe 2 but I don't remember.
2016 and Eternal are absolutely amazing though. Pure fun.

IIRC the episodes in Final Doom were incorporated into the digital Unity re-release of Doom 2. Bethesda periodically adds in free downloadable episodes/WADs to that and the Doom 1 re-release.

If you don't want to go down that route you can download a source port like GZDoom, find all the classic IWAD files which have been borderline public domain for decades, and run them there.

Out of what I've played doom 2016, eternal doom 1 doom 2 (never finished it) doom 3 and doom. 64 both of which I never finished either.

Like the lore with doom 1 more than 2016 as he was just a mere man too angry to die. Ganeplay in modern ones are more fun but now he's a enhanced human with well beyond human capabilities.

Doom 64 (should be higher because the whole vibe matches up with Quake but unfortunately it ended too short imo)

I'm really not sure if Eternal or 1 should be at the top for me. After that is 2016, and then the decision gets tough again with 64 and 2.

I really like Doom 2016, Doom Eternal and Doom 64

I like classic Doom and Doom 3

I just can't stand Sandy Peterson's levels. The Chasm in particular is just an exercise in annoyance, having to carefully navigate ledges, and doesn't mix well with Doom's fast paced gameplay.

Fucking insanity if you think about it because 1. it's a song as iconic as the Mario theme 2. the level is 20 seconds long 3. Pretty sure if I remember right that the other levels reused tracks.
That was remedied via mods though.

Yeah it shoulda been reused at least a few times I'm chapter 1. I can see it not having the right vibe for later chapters

At the Imp's Door was a good tune too. I really liked the ambient music in PSX Doom but obvs a lot if good music in the PC game.and ripped off popular rock/metal at the time too.

Can't speak for 64 or Doom 3 BFG.

Doom 1 and 2 are placed lower due to my discounting their their roles as progenitors; if I added that into the equation, at least Doom 1 would outrank 2016, if not both. There are certainly highlights to both games, but the big thing they both struggle with is that the last half/third of each falls off in enjoyability for me. Doom 2 is especially not very fun in the latter half of the game.

Plutonia is king of the commercially sold WADs, and I will die on this hill.

I had that sometimes those sound clips got way too repeated and repetitive but eh it was still better than Dark Forces 1.
