3 has a different feel, felt more of a relationship to my character, the Mars base, the mission. Admittedly, I'll need to return to 2016 and give it a real effort (maybe I'm just stupid and missed that part lol). It got lost in the backlog.

I've only played the really old school ones, 1+2 on the floppy disc and 360 ports. Would like to try all the iterations of 3, Doom 64, the reboot series

This. The horror of having to put the gun away for the flashlight really upped my engagement. Did other people just wander around in dark without the flashlight?

In the first five minutes someone tries to exposition dump the plot on him so he throws the computer into the wall.

eventually you learn to recognize the obvious monster closet spots. But unless youve played already you should be surprised sometimes

boss arenas always had plenty of lighting, getting to them was the harder part

Doom 3 was good but didnt really feel like a doom game imo.

BFG's only good features are Doom 1, 2, and the DLC expansions packed in one disc. Everything else like autoflashlight pisses all over Carmack's original intention.

Game was stupidly easy after you acquire the plasma rifle and chainsaw too.

its just a halfhearted retread of the beginning of half life, and after it they never attempt to do anything particularly interesting narrative-wise again

well they did a couple sequels. I heard half life is still working on that.

oh shut the fuck up. i was like 10 years old and too scared to not have the gun out instead of the flashlight lmao. My dad got me the steelbook limited edition and I was excited as fuck but never got past stage 2 or 3 as I didn't know where tf to go

Good because Doom doesn't need hours of pace-breaking dialogue and exposition scenes in between the satisfying slaughterfests. It's gotta be just enough to fill in the breaks like an 80s action movie.

okay I sound overzealous here lol. Doom 3 left a disappointing taste in my mouth I suppose.

I don't disagree, I was just saying even what it did at the beginning was both was not particularly unique and also almost immediately abandoned lol

Yeah I think it was a nod to the originals having very little story

I liked the cutscenes in eternal but felt they shoulda been reserved for like the end of a chapter like the ogs would give you text after one.
