I just learned the Hollywood sign is 101 years old. I knew it used to say Hollywoodland, although I didn't realize it has been Hollywood since 1949. In 1978 the original was replaced to be more durable. Apparently it was originally placed as an ad for a local real estate development but it was obviously left up because it became famous.

Honestly, cities need to allot more money to shit like this, as it gives people a reason to visit their city.
