Following their collaboration on horror pic Imaginary, Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partnering again, this time to develop and produce a brand new take on The Blair Witch Project. This will be the first film in a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library. The announcement was made by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse during Lionsgates CinemaCon presentation this morning.

Blum will team with producer Roy Lee on the new Blair Witch; Lee previously produced the 2016 film Blair Witch.

Jason Blum makes a good remake/sequel/reboot of a classic horror movie challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

Seems like it'd be pretty impossible to recreate what the first movie had going on and I wouldn't want another film along the lines of its sequel. I'm interested in finding out how it will be, but my expectations are low.

Hopefully will have a better director and writer this time around. 2016 film was a mess and the last forty or so minutes were unwatchable with all the shaky camera.

They went into the woods to make TikToks of the Witch.

It wouldn't be able to be found footage, but a prequel set in the 1700s or whatever, would be interesting. I remember in the 2000s, there were I think 3 pc games based on Blair witch and one of them I think was about the very beginning of the curse or witch or whatever. I think they were survival horror games

The first Blair Witch is lightning in a bottle. Like right at that perfect time where the internet could spread urban legends and was a good way to viral market. A large amount of people would take it at face value. I don't even think watching it now has the same impact as it did back then.

Now it's a big name IP. These found footage movies tend to just have a build up to a haunted house ride for the climax and that's it. It's hard to imagine this being anything other than just another movie like 2016. Spooky things happen in a forest, they find the house from the first movie, there's a a twist to make the movie try and feel distinct and then it ends.

They'll probably add some gimmick like they're live streaming it or something to make it modern too.

Yes. Main character is actually the younger brother (i guess REALLY younger) of the main girl in the first movie. He goes looking for clues to what happened to his sister.
