It took Dawn Staley several seconds to get the words out through her tears. We serve an unbelievable God, she said before breaking down again. The South Carolina womens basketball coach had been asked by ESPNs Holly Rowe to explain how her team beat Caitlin Clark and Iowa to become national champions on Sunday. Staley eventually talked about her team during the postgame interview, but not until shed talked about her faith. Staley is outspoken about her Christian faith, even when it leads to controversy. After facing pushback last week after South Carolinas Elite Eight win for saying somethings wrong with you if you dont believe in God, she told a reporter ahead of her teams Final Four game that she wont apologize for praising God.

During the postgame interview with Rowe on Sunday, Staley once again highlighted Gods work in her life, saying he made South Carolinas remarkable undefeated season possible when it seemed impossible. God is funny like that. Hes funny. He rips your heart out and he makes you believer, Staley said. The South Carolina coach returned to that theme during the trophy presentation, when the Gamecocks were recognized for their 87-75 win over Iowa. I just want you to know that the God I serve ... when he closes a door, he opens a door that is giving you unimaginable success, Staley said, as the crowd cheered.

Why would God care about that one specific Basketball team? I never understood why people thank God after winning sports. I guess this lady thinks she has divine blessings. But why would you even want that? I'd rather win because of my own skills, than win just cause God turned on the cheat codes for me

They prayed harder than the other team. Well deserved win. They just wanted it more.

I kind of love the idea that God is so petty he's interfering in the outcome of college basketball games.

Everyone at Iowa must be really depressed knowing God is real and he hates them

Don't really have a problem with it for the most part but does she thank God after a loss? I can't remember since they were t undefeated this year. But after losing g to Iowa did she thank God in the lost game? Can't remember.

Good thing God's got nothing to do besides root for X shooty hoops or handegg team.

And the favorite teams change every season! Such a bandwagoner.
