someone on reddit told me it will degrade the battery faster.

i just got handed one and in 10 minutes it went from 21% to 41% and the phone was warm.

on the wall charger i've been using the phone don't get warm nor the wall charger really.

should i just stick with the old one? charges slower but its fine, i don't want to wreck the battery.

It wears on the battery. Just charge while you sleep

is it safe to use a rapid charging wall plug though? i charge mine these days from 20% to 80%.

It depends a lot on the battery and the charger. Most newer batteries and fast chargers now use higher voltage for the initial "fast" part of the charge, as much as 48V. Watts = Volts x Amps. More amperage means more resistance, which means more heat and more damage to the battery. Therefore, using a higher voltage allows for more wattage with lower amps. 15W at 5V is 3A, but at 9V it's only 1.67A.

Most newer chargers are designed to do an initial high voltage fast charge, then they ramp down the voltage to top off the battery at a slower rate. You will actually see almost no difference between a 10W charger and a 45W charger for the final 90 to 100%, and little difference between a 45W and 25W chargers for going from 50 to 100%. But going 0 to 50% it makes a HUGE difference.

input: AC 100-240V 50/60Hz
output: DC 5V==2.4 Ax2.
and by the USB inserts both say 2.4 A

is that good enough for a pixel 6a? that's what i've been using. not the rapid one.

5V x 2.4A = 12W

The Pixel 6a can pull a maximum of 18W, so a 12W charger will only be slightly slower, and only when doing a full charge from near empty. The difference will be pretty small, probably 20-30 minutes difference in a zero to 100 charge, and 5-10 minutes for a partial charge, say 50 to 100%.

Rapid charging damages your battery slightly, I'd recommend not using it daily.

My phone came with a fast charger but I notice it only charges fast half of the time. The other half it takes like a couple hours to fully charge. It was like this from the beginning too and like this with my previous phone with that charger when I first got it.

thanks captain! would you say just stick with that wall charger then? i don't mind the slower charge at all. its just that a person on reddit said the battery will degrade if its not picking up 18w and then another one said the official one is rapid and that degrades as well.

all i can say is using the one i have been using doesn't feel like it really heats up on the phone or on the wall charger so i'm guessing its minimal stress, unlike the rapid one i was given which heated up.
