Carlin got it right a lot of the time, but not all of the time.

Carlin had a lot of good points, but this was an especially stupid one.

I do agree that this country is bought and paid for. I mean, just look at our justice system.

But not voting means you did NOTHING to oppose those dishonest and incompetent people.

Carlin was right about a lot of things, but not voting isn't one of them. We have nazis and white supremacists marching around, now is not the time for apathy and sitting home.

I think you have a right to complain whether or not you vote.

He almost certainly would.

I agree with this, but I'm still going to vote for the first time in my life this year, if for no other reason than to stick it to the filthy gop in some small way.

There's some truth in that but the thing is choosing not to vote is still making a choice. If a corrupt/incompetent leader gets into office it's true you didn't directly help them get there, but you still got out of their way. And maybe you had reasons for doing that, but you can't say you had no part in it.

the second reason assumes
1) that the vote is for the winner (would not apply to a vote for a loser)
2) that the vote is not meaningless (which contradicts the first reason)

What? People who engage in civics have the largest claim to complaining. I'd say it's the opposite, and as much as I enjoy Carlin in general some stupid quote from him doesn't change that. Dude was neither the smartest man in the world nor infallible.

You definitely still have a right to complain if you voted for someone other than the winner.

Even if you voted for the winner... Hm. I'd argue said right is diminished but not removed in that case. The exact extent depending on how foreseeable the outcome was.
