A 4.7 on the east coast is not the same thing as a 4.7 on the west.

I know, sorry, I'm just asking what happens in that scenario where it's NY taking the 7.5 that Taiwan got.

It would be just under 1,000 times stronger than what hit today.

So would it be 1,000 as damaging, or would it be even worse due to NY's infrastructure?

All I know is that every point increase on the Richter Scale is ten times as powerful as the one before it; I couldn't speculate on the finer details.

Having only been in like 2 significant earthquakes, I can tell you that it can be scary when you aren't used to them. I lived all my life in places where earthquakes rarely happen. Then I moved up to Alaska and like a year in, we had historic like 6.0 or something. Shit was falling off my shelves. It was crazy

Oh. It was 7.1

In 2018

Also I remember a CEman mocking me for overreacting while the aftershocks were still happening. But they may have thought it was smaller than 7.1
