Played the demo. Ost is amazing, gameplay is fun asf and animation/graphics are top notch.

If the game keeps that momentum throughout its easily GOTY contender.

And yes it really does have Nier Automata vibes.

I keep seeing everyone either loving or hating it. All I know is the graphics look amazing. I heard they spent a lot of time just on the main character's hair physics

I think the character visuals look good, but that's about it, for me.

the gameplay is pretty basic, and not very fun, and outside of combat, I'm not sure if it'll have anything else going on.

if people say its story is great/crazy, then I might give it a try.

The gameplay did look basic in the trailers, but when you actually play it, its pretty good imo. Its much more than just a hack and slash. I felt that each enemy could really catch you off guard if you're not ready to deflect or dodge at the right times.

it just has the same old attack, strong attack, block/parry mechanic we've seen in tons of other action games, but it doesn't feel very interesting in that regard, IMO.

it feels like the mechanics of a Souls-like, but the weightlessness/lack of impact of an action title, which hurts its impact.

I felt totally different. It felt like there was impact and weight to Eve's attacks. Every hit I felt, especially the strong attacks. I could say they could work on the animations in-fight to make it more fluid, but other than that, the actual gameplay felt solid.

But theres always room for improvement. The implementation of the shield and stagger mechanic related to how you can parry them off-guard was kinda cool to me. Actually rewards you when you learn how to parry better. The downside to the fights were that when there were too many enemies off-screen, you'd get hit by a cheap shot.

Gameplay is awful. Everything else is great

I think I'll wait until reviews and more combat videos are out before deciding to write it off.

Parrying alone feels already impactful, especially when you are able to parry each hit of the combo from a boss.

Yeah, you can always break it down to "attack, block, dodge", but you can do this for nearly every action RPG. You could say the same about Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Nier, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy XVI, and many others.

In my eyes it's aiming for a spot between the usual soullikes and other action RPGs, and I think it does it fine.

And I liked the few lines of dialogs too, like the one about books. Wasn't expecting Eve to be a rookie like that, and wasn't expecting that earth stuff like rain was already something special to her.

Still have to learn how to handle the trashmobs better.

I guess it's after playing so many other titles like that, that the combat ends up feeling like "meh", for me.

I feel the same way about some of the other games you've listed, like FFXVI and Kingdom Hearts.

at least with God of War, the combat feels fast and hectic, and it allows for more combos (maybe Stellar Blade will eventually have something like this), and stuff like Dark Souls give you a bunch of unique builds that feel different from each other.
