"People tend to think the events there were as barbaric or as brutal or as inhumane as in the movie with Russel Crowe...but in reality it was all acting. You know, similar to modern wrestling hehe."

2nd date likelihood?

"Really? We should get together sometime and take a closer look at that."

Boom. Now you'll have a second date and you can bring your own sources or take a look at the date's. It's not rocket science.

I'm not really a history buff, so as long as they can hold a conversation on a topic of mutual interest sure. I'm not worried about them having a few bad takes as long as they're not obsessive about them.

It wasnt really in anyones best interests for there to be a lot of dead gladiators.

From what history channel told me, that's partially true for the gladiators themselves. It was the prisoners, christians, and animals that didn't do so hot.

Its honestly a big misconception that most fights there ended in death. It was expensive to replace well trained gladiators and death didnt happen as often as its portrayed in movies.

The Colosseum has long been a fascination of mine since I was a kid and Ive actually been in the Colosseum in person. I knew about this fact beforehand but it was reiterated while we were there touring it.

I will add that the whole Christian thing is exaggerated. There probably were some Christians there, but it wasn't a mass slaughter on the level of a Holocaust, like some people think

sure, the gladiators were closer to WWE than Deathmatch

but they did kill alot of lions there, though
and giraffes, and hippos, and African elephants

alot of todays "near extinction" species can be traced to the activities at the Coliseum

But did they ever throw in some untrained fighters and not give a shit if they died? Sure not every time, but did it happen?

Eh. Gladiator fights usually weren't as deadly as the movies make it seem but there were also plenty of executions in the colosseum.

Prisoners would either get mauled by animals, or get forced to dress up as mythological characters and get killed like in the stories. I.e. wear wings and get plummeted to death from some height to portray Icarus.
