Are they occupied with caring for them physically? I'd say at the least, pick up any slack around the house. Do all those little annoying things so it's one less thing they'll have to think about.

just be there for them. Morbid had some good points. I wouldn't try and "cheer" them up... just be with them while they are sad.

You don't cheer them up.

You just be there for them, be it by bringing over a meal, helping them with what they need done, or simply being present (when they want it).

You aren't going to fix it, you're just making things easier the only way you can.

depends on their relationship

if they're close to their father just be there for them. don't get mad about little things, and try to ignore it if they do.

if they're not close at all, making them feel less guilty is probably harder
