I feel like everyone trusted him way too quickly. Besides Aragorn and Gandalf, no one else who was arguing about who should take the ring had any idea that hobbits were such sturdy creatures. So why was everyone suddenly like "yeah nah, I'm pretty badass, but this hobbit is probably the one for the job."

Maybe because the weakest creature was being braver than the others.

It's not why that matters, it should be HOW because PJ edited those several seconds in a way that Elijah Wood's soft voice can't penetrate all the loud arguing at first but then Gandalf turns in slow-mo like only he noticed yet everyone else does with him. I mean there could've been an instance where someone said something like QUIET FOOLS that got deleted in editing idk lol

Doesn't mean he wants to be the one to do it. I mean he already got blue balled the first time, imagine going all that way again just to see Frodo go nope Im keeping it.

My recollection is that all of those important people understood on some level that a hobbit was well-suited to be ring bearer because they are most resistant to the temptation of power, but also understood it would be cruel and dishonorable to ask this task of the hobbits present who were already in over their head and seriously wounded.

Because nobody else was volunteering, just bickering amongst themselves.

Gandalf should have suggested to ride them eagles.

The Hobbit literally was the best person for the job because they were resistant to the ring's influence.

Gandalf knew what he was doing. Think back to this line he delivers later:

Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times; but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

The guy spends the entire third age working behind the scenes to set things into motion in a way that doesn't violate the rules of the Maiar. He already knew what the Hobbits were capable of, even if Frodo wasn't the same adventuring type as Bilbo. Everyone else was shocked at the hobbit volunteering which is what made the room go silent, but Galdalf was the first to look for a reason. Hell, he probably knew all the other hobbits were evesdropping (since they do that to him all the time). He knew what would be required on their quest and orchestrated all the conditions necessary to make it happen.
