I always buy physical if the option is available. I buy digital pretty rarely. If my access can be taken away at any time by someone flipping a switch on a server then I consider that basically a rental and accordingly I won't pay any more than what I'd be willing to pay to rent the game.

In the US it's already settled law that consumers do not own their video games.

If you follow Ross Scott's Dead Game News and his ongoing attempt to stop always online games on central servers being shut down forever, you'd see him gradually losing his sanity over this.

If you're outside the US, this is something you can still fight for but in the US this is settled law and I don't see any reality where that changes since big businsess likes it and society by in large doesn't care,

Who cares? Just go to whokeys and use discount code TS25, and you can get a new key of Windows 11 Pro OEM for less than $25.

They are legitimate keys. Thats about the price range Microsoft charges OEMs for them. Dont be a sucker and let them mark you up to $216 or whatever they sell it for.

The one thing Ill recommend is to not do an upgrade. If at all possible, backup your important data (documents, pictures, config files, etc.), then just do a clean install and restore your data / reinstall your stuff when its done. If you do an in-place upgrade youll have issues even going from 10 to 11, much less from 7 to 11.

you'd think there'd be some legislation to protect us consumers against shit like Microsoft is currently trying to pull along with other companies.

I hate to admit that I own 70+ digital games and knowing one day I can lose access to them for some arbitrary reason makes me sick.

This is why I will never pay full price for a digital game or even a physical copy because even with those you still don't actually own the game, it's a license/key and nothing more.
Yeah so you buy a digital game from Sony or PSN and they go under you won't own it anymore?

Oh... Well you can always just download and install Windows 11 straight from Microsoft for free. They'll get pissy after a month and turn your wallpaper black and some letters in the corner that says "plz license this OS" but they let you keep using it.
fun fact about that shit. apparently the watermark will fuck with game performance because windows is a crock of shit. https://performance.moddinglinked.com/falloutnv.html#DriversAndOS under multiplane overlays and windows watermark

Why not just update to Windows 10 or 11? >_>
Because my PC from 2016 had a non-supported CPU and I would have to upgrade the entire system to get W11. It still works well and I can play most things medium to high, but in October 2025 my Windows no longer get updates.

I used to care more about this in the past but since I learned about gamesharing I basically went full digital. Saves me more money than by buying and trading in, I barely replay stuff anyway and once a system is written off entirely I mod it anyway.

Buy GOG. Make offline backups. No one can ever take that away from you
GOG is my first preference for purchasing games for this very reason.

I feel like this won't ever really happen because if Sony did "go under" SOMEBODY would buy them on the cheap. Especially if they could cop just the SCE division and not all the other bullshit like music or electronics.

You guys need to work together and get the shit illegal instead of coming to forums and complaining all the time. The sole reason gaming corporations do this type of ish is because the gaming community is so easy to exploit. You guys don't fight back. You just sit there and take it. We are just as much as the problem as the corporations that abuse us.

Im not going back to paying more for videogames. Even the biggest deal for physical isnt going to save me 50% of new price day 1.

Not exactly, just that they're more protective of consumer's rights to own the media or items they purchase. Right to repair is more heavily enforced, but America is such a capitalist shit hole that we can't legislate to protect media or consumer's rights because all the politicians are bought off & lobbying is legal bribery.

The EU being tougher on piracy than the US is a different subject altogether and it's down to individual countries on what they want to enforce. Consumer rights are higher in the EU (and UK) than they are in America. As for right to repair:
https://therestartproject.org/right-to-repair-uk/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_repair
tl;dr - Everyone should have the right to repair any electronic devices they own and not be dictated to by the manufacturer (coughApplecough) what they can do with it.

Yes and no. Theyre really dragging their feet on nature and environmental laws, mainly because of the strong farmers lobbies and governments caving to terrorism.

It was very noticable because each teacher was of a different ethnicity exactly like they were checking off a check list. And this was in the 1800s.

And there was a transperson in the game. I wonder if gunplagirl got the game after finding out lol.
