Most households didn't have the internet from 1992 to 1996 when the show first ran. If someone was the lone individual complaining about a woman in a position of power, that person was an idiot and everyone knew they were an idiot. They didn't have the safety net of a bunch of likeminded anonymous assholes backing them up. I think "Robert Kelly was right" or "Robert Kelly for President" would have been memed to fucking hell if the internet was as big in 1994 as it is in 2024. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Senator Kelly was very badly mischaracterized in the cartoon and movie. While he did start out as a bigot he starts seeing the X-Men as allies and pushing back on some of the more extreme government operations, and eventually gets assassinated by anti-mutant bigots for going soft on mutants. ... That part could still potentially happen in X-Men '97, especially since it's targeting an older demographic. Zikten posted... Is the president pro or anti mutant? The POTUS on that show outright ordered that the Mutant Control Agency be shut down in the second episode, when she suspects that the X-Men had good reason to attack it in the first episode. Henry Peter Gyrich refused to comply, and instead moved its operations to Genosha. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Dont remember anyone crying about it being woke back then See that's another problem with the Anti-Woke crowd. They hesitate to acknowledge similar content from the past well for comfort food sake and cause conceding X-Men TAS or heck Captqin Planet as such would mean acknowledging themselves to be less observant in their youth. An issue of Silver Surfer in fact acknowledged racism and got this letter in response: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/recent-updates/silver-surfer-racial-politics-marvel-comics/ --- Amalgam Universe resident Born in 82. ...
