Large snakes like pythons and anacondas have incredibly slow metabolisms (assuming that's the right phrase).

Like, even in the wild they only have to eat like once every week or two.

Harpie posted...
Nope, she eats just once a month! Feeding times vary widely between snakes, but generally they do not eat very often. They dont need to.

When Luma was little I fed her once a week, then eventually twice a week. Now I offer food once a month.

Luma actually hasnt eaten since November, and is still perfectly fine. And its not that food hasnt been offered, but she refuses to eat. Not atypical for her though since she usually fasts for the winter, but every snake is different

She could probably go over a year without eating and be fine.
Oh wow that's pretty cool. That actually sounds pretty low maintenance compared to dogs or cats. Maybe I should get a snake

They are extremely easy to keep once you have them setup. Only thing I've found that's easier than snakes is tarantulas.

They are heat pits! They're infrared sensing, so that means she can "see" radiant heat. Kinda like heat cameras. It's mostly used for detecting prey, but she also uses it to see me and objects in the tank at nighttime.

It's less petting and more so letting her move through your arms and crawl around. Eventually she'll snuggle up in my lap and I'll give her head scratches and pets

This. The setup is a delicate balance, though. Now that it's done it maintains itself, but it was a bit of a challenge to create a perfect temperature gradient across the tank, as well as a constant humidity level of 70%-80% where ambient humidity where I live is like 15% or less in the summer lol

And don't ask me how much the tank, lights, thermostats and everything inside costs..

Thank you gladius!! ^^

She is leucistic, which is a little different than albino. Here's a pic of an albino snake for comparison:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/752ab802.jpg

Albino is the absence of black and brown pigments, ie melanin. Leucism is the absence of all pigments, which is why Luma is pure white with blue eyes, and why an albino snake is yellow with pink eyes.

yeah the eyes were why I was wondering. I expected them to be closer to red if she was albino

I learned about leucism today though

cute nails.

How long do these snakes live? Was she more expensive because she is all white? That is a really nice aquarium or whatever, but id feel bad because it seems really small for what they would be used to if they were in the wild. But then again i guess she probably hasnt ever known anything different

Glad she made it home to you safe!

Yeah I didnt know about leucism either until I got her. Its kinda confusing tbh because some animals are pure white when albino, and leucism is just patches of pure white

Yep! Shes a Mohave x Lesser to be exact. Theres a lot of different morphs that makeup the BEL complex and hers is one of more common mixup

Beautiful! I had no idea Candinos looked like that as they aged, its so much prettier than the standard albino because of the caramel coloring. Hes like a banana without the freckles lol. Id only seen the babies on morph market and they look very similar to albinos at that age

Thanks ^^

Ball pythons can live 20-30 years on average. And yes, she was. Theres hundreds of morphs, ie colorings, of ball pythons and the price varies a lot based on rarity and demand.
A normal ball python can be bought for about $25. I paid $400 for Luma. And some morphs easily stretch into the multiple thousands

A burmese is a big step up from a ball python lol wow. Do you still have them?

She curls up into a ball, hence the name ball python

Most snakes sleep at least somewhat curled up though
