I booted it up a bit and it's so fucking slow. I'm running sround this barren village as some shit kid, and now I'm watching this boring conversation on Isaac's roof while they just poke holes in it and laugh while moving the plot at a snail's pace.

When can I finally play the game proper? >_> Is it even worth it?

Biggest disappointment of my retro wishlist. I'm sure it was very impressive back in the day, but it's just stock standard dungeon puzzles and settings, with a unique magic gimmick that seems to have depth, but literally there is only one optimal way to do anything, and every other combination can at best be described as an intentional self-nerf for the sake of aesthetic.

That's more a knock against JRPG writing, if anything. It's that much of a stock plot element.

Kinda >_> I was kinda hoping it being on a portable system in 2001, they would trim the fat a bit. RPGs like DQ3 and SMRPG let you get right into the action

I remember getting a used copy of the game like 15 years ago and trying to play it but it just didn't click with me at all, and this was at the height of my jrpg craze when I was playing all the oldies from 90s and early 2000s.

Maybe there was a good game in it, or maybe it was legend of dragoon syndrome but with Nintendo instead of Sony

I loved it back then, and I'm enjoying replaying it now.

I know the game has its flaws, but it's perfect for me right now.

They just talk about nothing for so long. I'm like "I understood the conflict and motivations like 40 minutes ago. Let's get a move on please"

First 2 are great ,but 3rd is rather meh

I tried it back when the GBA was still relevant because of all the praise but I found it very very bland. The emoji faces were charming but nobody had anything interesting to say, nothing about the plot hooked me.

Bruh, over an hour until the first bit of gameplay and I found out that if you attack an enemy and they defeat it before the next guy has a turn, he'll defend instead of attacking a different enemy.

Bruh. I am not playing this nonsense on the plane >_>

Damn I forgot about that shit I was trying to remember the other day why I have such an inbuilt compulsion to not waste damage in turn based RPGs, so I damage split weak attacks if not enough to kill etc.

I was wondering if it was just being anal and trying to optimize or some shit lol a lot of my old favorites used to do that, so you had to have a rough idea how much a hit would do and plan accordingly or you would get screwed >_>

I thought we solved that problem adter the NES but I guess not

Pretty sure the second one doesnt do that, but I couldnt promise because I didnt remember the first one did
