I don't know the context, but if you use a word that's just a stand-in for another word it's still an insult. There's a difference between "bucko" (which might get hit for trolling, in context) and "you're a so-and-so," where we're going to make a reasonable assumption that you're trying to insult someone. So not all insults are going to be hit for abusive, they might fall under trolling if anything, and minor ones would probably net you a NWD or NKL without history.

I can't see any way to read in that "tag" moderation that would make it not abusive. "I can't call you what I want" still directly implies you're attempting to call someone something bad. If anything that just looks worse for you.

Yeah, you can't call users racist, even if they are. If they're directly harassing you, mark it and explain. Keep in mind, there's a difference between someone insulting you and someone rudely disagreeing with you. And just because you don't see a post disappear doesn't mean it wasn't actioned. Again, if you see someone being racist - mark it. Someone else breaking the rules doesn't give you the right to break the rules in response.

"All X are Y" (where X is not "a literal murderer" and Y is something abusive/offensive) is usually going to get modded, implied or otherwise. You can't make sweeping generalizations. Again, if you see someone making a sweeping post saying "all liberals/Democrats are <bad thing>" mark it.

"Ugh," so here's the thing about "moderation" on GameFAQs. I get that they're trying to keep things "civil" and all, but sometimes it feels like they're just raining on everyone's parade. Like, yeah, we don't want "hate speech" or spam taking over the forums, but do they have to be so "strict" about everything? It's like they're constantly breathing down our necks, making sure we don't step out of "line" even a little bit. And don't even get me started on how they "enforce" those community guidelines like they're the holy grail of "internet etiquette." It's just so "frustrating" because it feels like they're sucking all the fun out of what could be a lively and dynamic "community." Can't we just have a little more "freedom" to express ourselves without getting slapped with a warning or a ban every time we say something slightly "controversial"? Ugh, "moderation," am I right?

This is sort of what I mean. Yes, this is moderating per the rules, technically, but rules can be anything. Being moderated for saying I cant even say what I want to say about you is pretty silly. You cant even imply you want to say anything negative about anyone, even if theyre literally calling you a child murderer because you are pro-abortion. (This has happened to me before.) And you cant call users racist, even if they are is just a wild statement to me. Im aware you, and the mods in general, dont really make the rules. But people are racist all the time in ways that arent really breaking the rules, and they get away with it too often because its dogwhistles and subtext. And everyone else just has to keep their cool and be polite to them, which is super fun.

Not being able to make accurate statements about political parties because they happen to apply to everyone in the party is also fairly unfortunate. At this point it would probably be better to just get rid of political talk altogether, imo.

No, that does seem to be the case. Which isnt this mods fault, but a pretty silly rule to enforce so strictly that you cant even imply you want to say something bad about a Nazi.

It's funny because I never get actioned on Steam. But, Publishers have a choice on whether they moderate their own forums or let Steam moderate them. Maybe your mileage is different because of the specific game you're posting on.

Yeah, it doesn't happen on game forums. It's always on Off Topic, which is the Steam equivalent of CE. Over there I'm known as the guy who gets banned constantly and nobody knows why.

TBF probably landed on the last part of what they said, but I still don't really understand that either. Why would someone openly insulting someone else not at least have the post deleted? If there's an insult out there, I'd think it'd be better to delete it. What is the line between what gets deleted or not if it's not an actual insult a person has to look at.

And for the record, pointing out your victim complex isn't an insult, it's a simple statement of fact that you've continued to prove with your further posts in this topic.

It's like, bigotry is an "opinion" and there absolutely is a "right" answer as to whether or not that opinion is acceptable. Plenty try to peddle vaccine misinformation as an "opinion" meanwhile actual data proves there is a "right" answer concerning vaccines.

There are a lot of topics that are considered political nowadays that very much do have a right answer.

Wouldn't that be another reason to start deleting insulting posts? People develop reputations, but those reputations could be based off of a bunch of people from some community board needling others repeatedly and then not being perceivably actioned?

And my "reputation" is blocking people. Which, I'd argue is a tool we are given for exactly the problem I experienced with the handful of people that are insulting.

What you're describing is called bias.

People should be actioned for what they say. Not what you perceive they mean or say.

And once again, I'll point out that I was openly insulted by a handful of people and nothing perceivable has happened. And, as you stated, people get reputations. So it should at the very least be deleted.
