My family keeps asking what I want for my birthday and Im thinking of asking for Rosetta Stone. Id like to learn Spanish or French, but Spanish would be the most useful considering Im in the U.S.

How hard would it be to pick up? I saw one guy learn basic Navajo in a month, and thats one of the most complex languages to pick up.

I once successfully claimed Python and C++ as second languages on my university application in lieu of Spanish or French.

So if we count that... then yes.

Fluent in Dutch, German, English and Limburgian. From what I know effectiveness of language programs differs per language. Duolingo is good for a few for example but its pretty much the worst way to learn Japanese. Id visit the general and specific language learning subreddits for info on what you want to learn, they also often have good links for additional learning tools and speaking buddies.

Damn, congratulations and thank you for the tips. Did you learn out of interest or are you well traveled?

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I just know a few phrases in Spanish and French (took two years each throughout grade and high school, but had pretty subpar teachers). I can tell people of those languages my name, ask for theirs, and ask where a good restaurant is, but thats about it.

Swedish is my native language and I guess I handle English well enough.

I live on a border between The Netherlands and Germany. Many families here have people from both countries and people go back and forth for all kinds of things from school to shopping to work, so learning Dutch and German both comes naturally. Limburgian is a local language that sort of differs in every town. I learned English on GameFAQs :).
