F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is upon us. Its the last previously announced game of many, so its interesting to speculate what is coming next. GB/GBC feels like a no brainer with a mainline Mario game missing, and Pokemon RBY. On N64, Smash Bros. is a glaring omission and theres a chance of DK64, Banjo-Tooie, maybe even Diddy Kong Racing.

MZero has beaten Metroid
It finally happened, and by god I wish it happened sooner. This game is really great once you get past the early game. Metroidvania is my second favorite genre, and you can feel how this game created the foundation for future titles. I've played Zero Mission before, and usually I'm a remake guy, but this game might just be an exception. What an absolute work of art that is perfect just the way it is. Hard to believe this is an NES game. I don't want to go into too much detail in case someone who hasn't played through it yet reads this. It's a game you really have to experience first hand to truly appreciate. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/f7830f7d.jpg --- MZero, to the extreme https://www.twitch.tv/kabazame ... Just don't think too much about the end I think. I haven't counted my progress carefully for that reason, although it's fine to have it in the opening post. It's easier to think "let's play that Xevious a bit see how that goes" than to think "let's move on with that 300 hour asignment" or whatever.
The other option is lowering goal per game, just drop what you don't like very much. Played a bit of Xevious or whatever, didn't do well and didn't have fun? Rank it based on that, next. Complete the ones that are fun. In particular for high score games, it makes sense to think of it as putting in a quarter or two and see how much fun you had with that. There's also the enjoyment of discussing things with other people even if it's not too fun, which is why we try to time the bigger or more interesting games. But yeah. --- Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to azuarc, the winner of the Game of the Decade II guru contest. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Just do it , you could mark on your lists what you didn't complete if you want in case you change your mind or one of the other two+ says "it gets super good after this point" and you get curious. Or if you finished 240 games and didn't finish 4 and it seems like a nice and doable thing to complete at that point. It's just about keeping the ball rolling really.

Anyway, Ctes have beaten City Connection. It's a bad game tbh. I didn't understand it at first but it still isn't fun. Almost every death feels random. There's little point in moving in from a stage other than avoiding the spikes, it seems to jump randomly around to instead of getting to see everything. High Score? Well, past 999999 it resets so let's throw this one out.

Mr_Crispy 04/06/24 5:00:02 PM #80: |
I like Solomon's Key a lot and I think it's one of the best early NES games, but it's also one of the hardest NES games to finish due to a combination of being difficult and how if you try to continue past stage 40 you just get sent back to stage 40 so you have to finish the last stretch of the game on one credit (which is actually toned down from the arcade game where you can't continue at all past stage 27 or 28). The sequel, Fire n Ice is one of the best puzzle games on the platform, and a lot easier/more accessible. But it's also a lot later in the system's lifespan (definitely worth playing when you get to it though).
I bounced off of Mighty Bomb Jack at first due to the torture chamber mechanic, but once I found out how to avoid it and how you're supposed to use the powerups I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would because just jumping around is fun. However, it's the sort of game that has a lot of esoteric nonsense that's basically impossible to figure out without a guide, if you're trying to get the best ending or are playing for score (and a lot of people who try it probably just give up just from running into the torture chamber mechanic for the first time). Babel/Mystery Tower has some rough spots (getting the actual ending is stupid) but I think it's worth playing overall. Particularly since it's a Namco game that gets buried behind the nth rerelease of Pac Man or Dig Dug and it doesn't get referenced into the ground in their other games like Tower of Druaga. It got a rerelease in a Japanese only PSX collection, and it got a theme in Pac Man 99 but that's about it afaik. It's not even on either of the Namco Museum Archive games that were made specifically to collect Namco's NES games (and they include games that they just published like Mendel's Palace and Dragon Slayer 4/Legacy of a Wizard). --- The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons. Opening post spreadsheet now also includes GB and GBC comparing with only 3DS. It's a very shallow selection in comparison as well with 83 against only 21, they're sleeping on a lot of obvious stuff here. A lot of the one's on 3DS are ports of old arcade games, which early Game Boy saw a lot of releases of, but even removing that there's a lot of room to improve the NSO selection.

Just to finish the thing, N64 is also on there now, it was obviously a lot shorter. It doesn't have as big a library, but what is there is good. Unlike previous, Switch easily wins here, having not only the larger library but adding some crucial titles likes GoldenEye and Banjo-Kazooie among other greats.
