Also direction is relative. There really isnt any wandering clouds of gas close either. Actually we are in a sorta dead spot. The only way we have any of this to happen would be a rogue star. There is a theory that the orbits of planets that are in irregular orbits are planets that have been effected by a passing planet or star. It would have to be large. So yeah it can happen.
