At what point does it stop being primarily movement of celestial bodies and become gravity though?

If the earth is spinning at 1000 mph, if someone jumps off a mountain and it takes 30 seconds to hit the ground shouldn't they land 8 miles away from the mountain?

Air molecules rotate with the earth. If it didnt wed have 2000 mph winds.

The earths surface is big. Also direction is relative. The earth isnt moving up per se, more like moving at a horizontal orbit around the sun and bringing things toward the core with it.

Yet you think the earth jumps up to meet any falling object entering the atmosphere

Things are attracted to the core of the earth because earth moves fast at its orbit. So as it moves, things have no choice but to come down to meet the earth.

You probably shouldve clarified that you dont think the earth moves off its orbit and axis to meet objects.

I am unfamiliar with other stars or gaseous giants crashing into the sun.

We don't have a close binary for that happen. There really isnt any wandering clouds of gas close either. Actually we are in a sorta dead spot. The only way we have any of this to happen would be a rogue star. There is a theory that the orbits of planets that are in irregular orbits are planets that have been effected by a passing planet or star. It would have to be large. So yeah it can happen. Anytime soon? No
