Would you be angry enough to take it out on their kids and treat them like trash because their father did not pay?

I love how I have to pay for the sins of my dad borrowing money from everyone and my uncle's and auntie's not liking me because of what he did. Despite never borrowing a cent from anyone

I don't loan money. If you need help I'll help and won't expect it back. Once you bring business into it the family or friendship is now on the line.

My entire family are drug addicts and thieves so a "loan" has always just been a gift so that they hopefully dont rob your house while you're at work.

How much money are we talking about? Is it like $20, or is it like $20,000?

Need some questions answered.

Who borrowed from me?
How much?
How long ago did they borrow?
Why are they not paying me back?

Depends on how much. I normally don't loan anyone more than 100 or 200.

Now you have to evaluate whether or not they deserve your respect for treating you badly without a concrete reason.

You don't have to break ties or burn bridges, but you also don't have to try and earn the respect of those who aren't being fair.

Depends on factors.

A. How much are we talking about? If its a small sum then its forgivable.

B. The reasons for it not getting paid back on time. If I knew there was a chance they couldn't pay it back then its kinda expected.

C. How honest the person is about it.

Shit happens, and not everyone can pay something back on time. If its an honest person who I know is just struggling, like a single mother, then just get the fuck over it.

It depends on the amount and what they used it for.

I'd be pissed if I loaned somebody hundreds and they used it on gacha. Conversely, if that hundreds got them out of a bind of some kind and they never actually paid anything back I wouldn't care.

Don't think I'd take it out on the kids though. Not unless the kids -also- borrowed (or were the ones who blew it on gacha)

I only lent expendable money.
Whenever someone borrowed my money, i consider the money gone but keep a note on the borrower. Not lending more money on those who haven't paid the previous one.
If they managed to return it, then it's good. But if they're avoiding me because they don't want to pay it back, then the money did a good work on filtering leeches.

I learned pretty early on that if I lend money out, there was a strong chance I'm not going to see it again. I give money as if it's a gift. If I don't see it back, then I stop giving you gifts.

there's no such thing as 'borrowing' or 'lending' money. there's giving money. and then, if luck or kindness shows up, you get it back. unless you're some kind of bank or legal loaner or some shit where it's forced to be paid back or pay some other way.

never give other people money expecting it in return. there's no borrowing.

I don't get this extreme logic. I have friends who would repay a loan if for no other reason other than they wouldn't want to be known as a shit person to the larger friend circle. I don't think it's purely legal consequences that make lending a safe practice

Theres always a family member that ask to borrow money but makes excuses as to why they cant pay you back, but if you borrow from them they expect to be repaid in 24 hours.

I don't get mad, I just write it down how much they owe me, and how fast they paid me back.

There is still one person who hasn't paid 50 Mexican pesos, dating all the way back from 2016. Last time he tried to ask me for more money (like 100 Mexican pesos around 5 years ago) I told him that I would do it, as long as he paid me first those 50 Mexican pesos back first.

He didn't respond to that message.

I don't lend out what I can't spare, so not really mad. I wouldn't give someone money I was relying on for the month in expectation that it would be paid back before I need to cover bills.

Loool I'm not gonna ask for my money back from my own kid brother, how were you raised boy? It's family.

Don't get me wrong I did cut him off, but not gonna ask for previously borrowed money back. The breaking point was when he asked for like $600 and I said ok and later found out it was for him to buy a TV, I facepalmed so hard. Here I was thinking he was gonna buy clothes and groom himself to go out and get a job.

Super mad if it's a lot of money but wouldn't take it on their kids tho lmao. That sucks that it sounds like you got to suffer for something you never did.

For me, I have a friend that I've been with since elementary $400 and never paid me back. Dude was buying crap behind my back like expensive toys, external hard drive etc.

Ended up letting go after trying to ask him many times. Hell he didn't want even want to help me either when I asked him if I can borrow money like $100-200 but it was urgent and even promised I would pay back just had to say to remind me Everytime. Dude ended up lying and blowing $2k on gaming stuff the next day lmao. I feel like he wanted to spite me..Last time I'm ever giving money to anyone to borrow.
