Heavy underdog Kent State went up one on Akron six seconds to go. A Kent State player immediately intentionally fouled an Akron player on the inbound. The only explanation is that the Kent State player thought they were still behind. They then lost on the subsequent free throws. God bless that kid, hes going to relive this night in his head every day for the rest of his life.

I didn't watch it because my team didn't make it past the semi finals.

But, for being coached by a first year coach they got a hell of a lot further than anyone thought they would.

Same for the women's basketball team.

Poor situational awareness. Kind of like when j.r. Smith thought they had the lead but it was tied so he just dribbled out the ball.

Sadly for this kid, he will be used as an example of awareness.

BG fan here but Akron>>>>Kent state. Lesser of two evils.

I can't even imagine hating Kent State, perennial underdogs, over Akron, who regularly win and then utterly blow it on the bigger stage.

Did they need to win that to get into the NCAA tournament? That's REALLY gotta suck for that guy.

Poor player. I hope they don't beat themselves up too bad over it. Everybody fucks up, it's one of those lovely "learning experiences" that life likes to throw at us to keep us from getting bored.

My team fucked up in the Super Bowl last month by forgetting what the overtime rules were.

I think this is a legit strategy that some people believe in when only up by one

Not really, since it's literally two unopposed shots. You never want to put the game entirely in the opponent's hands.

The player likely did legitimately not realize they were up.

I get it. Big stage, things happen. I feel bad for the guy, even if it hurts, as a fan/alum.

I was thinking the foul when up 3 strategy, though I did find a site where someone did a bunch of math equations evaluating when it could make sense if up 2 or 1

Up 3? Absolutely. Up 2? Ehh. Up 1? It pretty much never makes sense, only in extremely specific scenarios.
