No cooking classy is the Americanized pad Thai. I mean it is sweet but I thought it was pretty balanced by the lime and fish sauce. Some people will add Sriracha for an extra kick.

As for Pho I loved the one I've had, though I have mine with chicken instead of beef. If you like fresh veggies you'll love it, It's got lots of bean sprouts, green onions, thai basil, etc.

Pho is OK, but it's never my first choice when I get Vietnamese.

Whereas I love Thai food, there are a ton of Thai places near me. My favorite has amazing pad Thai, I get it like once a week.

It sounds like you may have had a more southern style pho. They tend to have more ingredients than the more traditional northern style.
