It's just not. Like literally none of it pertains to me.

They do. And I get that Bethesda wanted to make it equally valid to choose either one, but the bad kind of outweighs the good with either one, so I end up wanting to fight for neither.

But at the same time, letting the war drag on as long as possible (by not tipping the scales in either the Empire's or the Stormcloaks' favor) ultimately achieves the Thalmor's goal of wasting the Empire's time and resources on fighting the Stormcloaks while they themselves are rebuilding their forces and preparing to invade mainland Tamriel again. I don't know about you two, but I'm personally in favor of screwing over the Nazi Elves.

It's a good thing they aren't too uppity about friendly fire in the big battles, because I definitely ended up killing the most people on both sides of those fights.

It's hard to tell who I'm stabbing from there in the thick of things.

The game does not do a good job of conveying the war though. Aside from a few camps or forts set up around, we don't really encounter any hostile actions by one side towards the other.

I've done both for achievements, the only side I actually enjoy doing the questline for is Imperial, though.

The empire obviously has their problems and it sucks that they've ended up as the Thalmor's thralls, but the Stormcloaks are just shitty racist nationalists. I don't support those people in real life nor video games.

I can't help but laugh when it's phrased like that.

I made a new character in skyrim probably the best character ever made. Dual wield vampire necromage breton, drinking an illusion potion and equipping ring of the wind you could probably rush through the main story in no time.

I typically create an alternate RP motivation for the Civil War; I usually side with the Empire for obvious reasons, but whenever I go with the Stormcloaks it's because I'm a vampire / necromancer / warlock who wants to make Ulfric my own puppet and have Skyrim to myself without the Empire in my business.

I've only completed it twice, once for each side just to do it. Haven't done it since. Every time I replay Skyrim I don't even progress it at all beside the very start you have to do. I like being able to do whatever while not having random annoying dragon attacks. Never cared much for the shout powers so it's no big loss.

Both sides suck, but the Empire seems to suck less.

I rarely ever do the story when I replay the Bethesda Fallout games either. I like going around RP'ing (as much as you can in these games) and just doing side stuff.
