For my perfect game Ive gone with four red mages, but I guess a more balanced party would be knight/thief/black mage/white mage.

I also quite like knight/thief/black mage/red mage so its the 8-bit Theatre party, but I ran into healing problems against Chaos.

Clarifying, I mean the revised versions, with the broken spells and mechanics fixed.

Fighter monk red mage white mage.

Thief sucked. And I was very frugal about using black magic so no black mage.

Mostly I use thief and black mage for haste and temper, though the thief is alright if I want to buff up two attackers. Offensive magic I do agree is pretty poor.

Weakest attack power too iirc. At least till you start getting end game weapons.

Personally I always just liked how red mages looked

I used to go fighter red white black

I liked having almost every spell in 1 party, and able to use almost any item

If not, Almost always fighter black white

the first party i ever used was fi/fi/wm/bm and it's kinda my default because of it.

fighter, monk, white mage, black mage. best party.

fighter is obvious.
monk is fun and cheap. a second fighter is technically better.
white/black mages to get all the spells.

red mage is underwhelming and i dont know why people like it.
thief is actively bad.

the objectively best party is 4 fighters. If you are on the GBA version where intelligence works then Fighter, Monk, White, Black is the strongest I *think*

i only play nes or psx version of ff1.

thieves are bad although i guess in the remakes they are fine since the remakes are stupid easy.

Magic sucks in classic versions of FF1 except for healing. The only black magic you need is FAST which can be obtained by both Ninja and Red Mage.

I go fighter, black belt, white mage, black mage. White and black mages are just using staffs and healing helm once those are acquired.

I need every spell, even if they are useless.

Black mages suck between thief/ninja also getting FAST and limited late game spell slots which are only marginally better than item spam (<3 thor's hammer and the like)

Anybody else here liked the dissidia games and now consider final fantasy 1 the final cycle?

I even name the white mage cosmos and just pretend she has exhausted her God powers. Which she kinda did in the original. I even name the monk sabin as if she got to summon one more warrior. My fighter is WoL always now and red mage is my self insert character.

or what party i used when i played the NES version on Wii VC (Got to when you can first access the peninsula of power)

This was on the PSP version of the game.

2 Red mages and 2 black mages is a blast. Maybe RM/WM/BM/BM if you need a dedicated healer but with 2 Red mages you will mow down most enemy encounters before they can fight back.
