The story either goes a wild direction or it's incomplete

The closest game to a good beginning, middle and end is Berseria, everything else has a clear weak point

If that was true I would've finished Berseria. Couldn't finish Zestiria or Xillia 2 either.
Maybe I've outgrown the series, I finished Arise but it was so fucking mid

Yeah, I'm not sure why they do that. Like Arise was great until (ending spoilers) it went off the deep end with the whole, it was actually a secret race of aliens pulling the strings the whole time, to feed the great spirit that consumes planets.

I liked that twist, it just needed to happen earlier in the game so it could be developed more.

I felt like Symphonia and Abyss were fine in this regard but I haven't played either in a really long time.

Arise is shit all the way through in terms of story.

Last Tales I went through was Berseria, and yeah, the last third was pretty mediocre. I seem to remember a ton of padding and backtracking and the final fights weren't even that enjoyable. Shame they squandered one of the better casts like that.

it's a pretty mediocre series and the games often have the same issues. the pacing past the midgame is usually really bad and the plots usually get really dumb

berseria had a really boring cast and it felt like they tried to finish everyone's arcs all at once in a very rushed manner before the final boss

Wonder when the next one is. Arise already feels so long ago that I wouldn't be surprised if one gets announced next year

You're probably right, but I still enjoy the hell out of them anyway, played Vesperia again recently and spamming Rita's burst arte to end fights super fast was always fun. Blah blah blah Tidal Wave!

Every Tales plot is some variation of the same nonsense.

Something something racism...something something two worlds...something something broken system

Arise was fairly good, to me it dropped the ball once you recruited your final party member. There was so much potential to recruit at least one more character.

I dunno how people didn't understand this plot point. The point was that it's a parallel. The Dahnans were still a developing species that were quickly developing into eventually exhausting their planet, and the real Renans followed their societal advancements several centuries ahead. They've already exhausted their planet and annexed Dahnans, culturally appropriating some of them to make up for most of their inhabitants dying out due to a lack of atmosphere. But the culturally appropriated Dahnans mistakenly thought themselves as Renans and then discriminated and enslaved the Dahnans while reaping all the output for themselves.

It's a bit of an allegory of how less developed 3rd world societies got completely appropriated and taken advantage of by the 1st world countries irl. People who came out of it a citizen of the 1st world country through generations didn't somehow go back to the 3rd world countries to make it better. They would rather associate themselves with the 1st world countries. Also their racism was inherently flawed due to both of them being manipulated species by the same entity, as well as being literally the same race. The implication was that a lot of the higher up Renans knew the truth and chose to rather live in luxury, and the newer generations grew up none the wiser

Compared to other Tales games which are generally clown shows where characters deal with issues with the power of friendship and just beating the one human somehow responsible for everything, Arise conclusion was that they need to reintegrate the appropriated Dahnans through the leadership of guys like Dohalim. The DLC kinda fucks a lot of that up, but I prefer to think the DLC story never happened.

Like don't even tell me that Berseria's endless speeches fitting in the word "revenge" every other sentence made any sense at all. You know the whole plot was, a group of guys are just assholes who want to drain people's personality just on some opinion that it'll make things better. A raging shotacon just beats them down. That's it. Like there's no exploration on what revenge means or like whether or not draining ppl's emotions will accomplish anything, no reasonable explanation as to why half of the villains are doing what they are doing and why they did it.

As soon as Arise posed a theme and asked the audience to actually think about it, there were a bunch of ppl who are just like dur... I don't get it

Most Tales backload their story, but Arise was the most recent and it did it very poorly. Killed it's pacing outright.
