If someone from another race sees something they like about your culture and decides to incorporate it into their own life, is that flattering or offensive?

Bit of both maybe in the sense that youre stealing and calling it your own. Flattering cos you have good taste.

It's fine to me the majority of the time.

I think the charitable view of cultural appropriation being a bad thing is when one group is regularly demonized for a certain part of their culture, but someone else commercializes it without giving credit where it's due. But I think this only really happens for a minority of things

I think it's fine when people are enjoying things from other cultures/paying homage.

not so much if they're taking credit for finding or creating stuff from other cultures, though.

or when something might be seen as sacred in another culture, or for special occasions, and people foreign to that culture are just using it for its aesthetic.

Its one of those things bored middle class mostly white activists tackle so they don't have to do a form of activism that runs the risk of helping people in the real world. You can guarantee activists battling against Cultural Appropriation are gong to stay the absolute fuck away from the economy or living standards or health care or any other "normie" thing

i only really consider it cultural appropriation if it strips [all] cultural context and/or lacks attribution to original creators

I think there are cases where it's a valid complaint, but it's also been severely overused by people just looking for something to complain about. A company with no connection to the culture taking cultural things and using them to profit is a problem; someone making themself a foreign dish for dinner is not, even if they make their own adjustments to it.

As a broad social concept, it holds weight in describing certain trends. Otherwise, it's just bullshit tweets, or the equivalent.
