While Toei had some influence before, Toriyama was the overall-kingpin of the franchise. But with Toriyama gone, and Toei being who they are, do you believe that they will use this opportunity to exert more and more of their own wants on the series? I know Bird Studio--Toriyama's own company--still exists, but they may not have the same pull without Toriyama at the helm anymore.

Idk the legality of the situation, so I'll just input my opinion on the assumption Toei has gain majority control over the series.

Love or hate Dragonball, the series is a nostalgia powerhouse. People will buy and defend DragonBall no matter what.

I have 0 doubts Toei will continue to capitalize on people's nostalgia for the series. Not to sound morbid, but Toriyamas passing might even be a boon to Toei if they play their cards right. As morbid as it sounds, artists dying has a huge market on their loved content.

So my question would be instead, assuming Toei has control, how long can they ride the nostalgia train without screwing it up. With Toriyama passing away, the nostalgia factor, more specifically nostalgia to new (not old) content loses some of its grip on fans since they might be less tolerant to bad content.

Shueisha owns the rights to the IP. Toei just has rights for the anime. Shueisha has and always will have final say in regards to anything involving the series. They may have asked Toriyama for input out of respect but they never needed his approval with anything regarding the series.

Shueisha's Dragon Ball Room handpicked a well known doujinshi artist to do it.

I think Toriyama's son will still have some kind of creative control.

Not really, nowadays he was just a figurehead mostly due to how much fans value the original creators input to an unhealthy degree in jp.

Right, I forgot about Shueisha's role in all this. Though I did believe that manga creators retained overall rights to their own works (or at least, more rights than what Western equivalents would allow).
