not looking for debate, just curious about people's beliefs

i was raised in the american south between 3378 different denominations of christianity. my parents are christian but were never really church people so i just went every once in a while. other family and friends were all over the place. i never, like, belonged to any particular one or understood all the differences lol. i think i believed in god until about halfway through high school then things got murky and i guess it's been up in the air ever since for me

i think i'm really just looking for perspective of what other people believe and... how they experience religion? idk i feel like an alien lol. also this is not intended to be limited christianity or any particular faith so anyone is welcome to share their story

my parents are from east Africa, and both have a Catholic background.

but my dad told me he only really became Catholic because they were the ones who offered good schooling, and people in our ethnic group were being denied education at the time.

I'm not sure if he had negative feelings towards the church, or just religion in general, because my siblings and I grew up in a home with basically no religion.

I didn't learn anything about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, etc. until I got older, and that was mostly from media.

when I asked my dad about it, he told me he wanted us to decide for ourselves.

my mom was more religious, though, and after my dad died, she tried to introduce more religious stuff into the home, but I feel like it was more for her than for us.

anyway, I think that through past experiences, I would consider myself to be an agnostic theist.

like, I believe that there's something out there, but as to what it might is, what it might want, etc., I dunno.
