...advanced beings (aliens in Arrival and our fifth dimensional descendants in Interstellar) help humanity at some pivotal moment in our development because it means that we'll either help them sometime in the future, like in Arrival, or because our survival means their existence, like in Interstellar

besides those movies, I think that kind of plot happens multiple times in Christopher Pike books (YA, mostly), from what I've read growing up, where there might be competing, advanced forces trying to affect humanity's development towards some alignment. and some stories might have both alignments eventually headed towards the same path, but the darker one taking longer to get there.

anyway, I generally like it, I guess.
