Deus Ex Mankind Divided - I had such a fun time with the game despite how it fundamentally is like... half a game. It is hugely flawed in that way but I still really enjoy it.

Alpha Protocol - Ohhh man, this game is so much fun despite how jank and honestly terrible most of the combat is.

The second half is a little more like the second 15%.

Xenogears. Yes the second disk is rushed, incompetent and turns into a digital novel at times. The first disk is still a near perfect JRPG experience.

FF 4. Silly plot with the same twist used four times, no customization, no real exploration, super linear progression, low challenge. One of my favorite games in the series.

MGSV, definitely. The plot is a bit shaky, real-time unlocks/upgrades are absolute trash, and some open-world characteristics chafe, especially if you're hoofing it from camp to camp trying to Fulton-extract soldiers and animals. On the other hand, the controls are absolutely fantastic to this day, the mission variety is pretty good overall, and there's lots of fun to be had just doing little side gigs and experimenting with different loadouts, characters, etc. It's earned its divisive ratings, but I can't bring myself to truly hate it, even when some decisions are the equivalent of spitting in a player's face.

On a similar note, Death Stranding has all the makings of another open-world disasterpiece: long stretches of nothing, a world seemingly meant to waste time, annoying ghosts attacking you along roads and dragging you a mile away from your destination, menial deliverman fare acting as drip-fed plot, etc. And yet, the notion of exploring a "dead" world when others can't is kinda nice. Same for building all kinds of gizmos and shelters that you and other players can use and maintain. There was a point later in the game where I built a massive zipline network all throughout, and even over, the mountains. Took an ungodly amount of hours, but not having to trudge through deep snow like a putz was worth it. Does it smooth over all the time spent on your Adopt-a-Highway quests, etc.? Naw, but the love-hate relationship was mostly balanced, and that's enough to at least play through once.

Metroid Other M. Yes, I actually liked the game because the fighting mechanics were pretty fun. I played through the game multiple times and challenged myself with a hard mode low % run that I nearly completed but eventually failed at due to the final time you need to go into missile mode.

Hated the pixel-hunting sections but they were only bad on the first play through. Hated how they treated Samus's character. Hated Ridley's Little Bird form because it just seemed to destroy what we previously knew about him. Hated that the game had a softlock that occurred near the end of the game but was activated near the beginning of the game, but only had it occur to me once and not on my first play through.
