yeah, I go on a bike ride almost every day during spring/summer and I'll stop at garage sales that I pass. I've found a few really cool things at them, got a basically mint condition original gameboy + box for $10, also random ps1 games, comics, movies, etc.
there's a huge garage sale that's organized by my city every year. instead of being at peoples homes, the parking garage in our "downtown" is closed down for the week and people are allowed to rent booths/spaces in the garage where they can sell their things. lots of really cool stuff at this sale, and there's a lot of crossover with people who are vendors at the local renaissance festival. i also trash pick a lot. my current desk, lamp, and even TV were all trash picked. --- ? ... Not as much as I used to, but a few years back there was an estate sale with a ton of books they wanted to get rid of and I scored a lot of old horror books for cheap.
