It's like 99% ogre battle. It's easier to list the differences than it is to explain the similarities.

Difference from MOTBQ:
  1. No big units and no undead units
  2. There's a real time limit to battles instead of a de facto time limit
  3. Limited to 10 troops
  4. Units will have a stamina meter that depletes with battles so you can't make 1 unit kill the entire map
  5. No tarot card effects. Instead there's a valor skill system and items that mimic valor skills
  6. Money isn't used for troops. Instead your deployment is restricted by valor, which is a meter that goes up based on how many troops You've killed or places You've captured.
  7. Troops no longer flee when the leader is dead
  8. Units only have one promotion option. There's no promotion branching and no requirements for promotion as long as you have B rank renown. Also no weird promotions like the MOTBQ werewolf secret promote
  9. Tactics are granular and set on a by character basis, similar to how FF12 does it
  10. Every character has their own equipment
  11. There's no reputation meter. There's a renown meter but it only ever goes up.
  12. You don't have to pay to resurrect a dead unit
  13. Things a unit does isn't determined by what row they're in, but by their set tactics. Actions themselves are regulated by a AP & PP resource. Generally speaking if you have more AP & PP you can do more/better actions.
  14. Defeated characters suffer an initiative penalty if you attack them again during recovery.
  15. Troops holding a fort or other map feature aren't pushed back if defeated.
  16. There can be multiple deployment points in a map, you'll have to liberate them first though.
  17. You can infinitely grind phantom missions.
  18. There's map interactive stuff like catapults


I think that covers just about everything. Outside of that list everything is identical to ogre battle.

played a bit more, around level 8-9 ish average on my party now and yeah after that mission with the angel (which I still think was a weird difficulty spike) I have essentially steamrolled every other one so far

I also learned earlier today that there was a day1 patch which added a difficulty below easy (lol) and nerfed every other difficulty somewhat as well

There's definitely some hard missions down the line. In particular, anything that results in the capture of a "large city" is much harder than any other battle. The very first one you get the units aren't so tough but there's a very short time limit.

And the very first flight against Galerius was also kinda hard.

The localization is so distracting and it's getting worse deeper into the game. They continue adding more and more and more text to try to flower up the dialogue. It makes me feel like the localizer had a fantasy novel he wanted to write or something.

Seems like a waste of time. I can get experience, books, honor, and around 10000 gold by plundering units in one of the phantom quests.

This game needs a way to reroll deliveries without completing them.

I got most of my mining done by simply trying to get the fifth treasure map. Sold about 50 stone and 75 iron ores and I had something like 75k. Now I got over 100k and nothing to spend it on, other than consumables.

It's not a total waste of time, but I haven't done the math on it. It DOES seem like it may be faster to mine, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, mining gets you Divine Shards, which makes it worth it to try.
