I have never gotten one but I honestly would just use connections to get it thrown out

Really? Sad that many would use connections. Many people should be angered by that, esp. if they were blatantly speeding

I thought about it but decided to pay the ticket instead.

Speed limits arent enforced here at all, but when people get caught without a licence or insurance or whatever, they just pay the police about ten dollars and go on their way.

Yes. Got some dismissed.

Others. Not so much. It's 50/50 in my experience unless you have proof of mis deeds by a cop

I've gone to court to get a penalty reduced, in a state that is notorious for severe driving enforcement (VA). It cost $1500 (plus speedo calibration, plus defense driving class) for a lawyer that reduced the penalty to a fine below the threshold where it would have mattered to my career ($250). It was a huge hassle. There's basically a cottage industry in VA dedicated to this.

One interesting thing is that my car insurance actually went DOWN. I don't live in VA, and apparently it's the violation that transfers across state lines, not the penalty. Where I live, it was only a two-point ticket, and I had two "positive" (good behavior) points. My insurance company saw zero points plus a defensive driving class, so they lowered my rate.

No, I'm a software developer on projects with specific vetting requirements. Any criminal record is generally problematic (this was a misdemeanor), but there is an exception for driving-related misdemeanors with penalties consisting solely of low fines.

Oh, not sure how that would relate to having a very good driving record, have never heard of that

Sorry, I edited after you posted. It wasn't the driving record per-se, it was the criminal record that would have resulted.

I remember people saying you should plead not guilty and they usually cant do anything about it, but that never made sense to me. Ive always been guilty. I dont know anyone falsely accused of speeding but Im sure it happens. But I havent been pulled over since my 20s.

Nope, but had a parking ticket thrown out. My parking lot is owned by the county and has a designated two hour anytime area that I parked all day in on a Saturday, but had it tossed because the county decided years ago when they got the lot from the city that they would only enforce it weekdays from 10-6 but would leave the signs up.

Yes, my two most recent speeding tickets were clearly just speed-trap fundraisers. So out of principle I made myself as much of a pain in the ass as I possibly could. First ticket was dropped before court, and the second one was at least negotiated down to not go on my driving/insurance record.

It is merely a "Class A misdemeanor", but still literally a criminal record. I didn't get a ticket; I got a summons. Max penalty (for reckless driving by speed) could have included suspended license, days in jail, etc. Maybe not realistically in my case, since I had a clean record, but you never know. VA traffic penalties are severe.

What, you were going like 25 over or something?
