Its where you dont buy anything anymore. Its all rented in perpetuity while you slave away in a second job (that youre paying for) on an endless treadmill, and also the game gets cut up before release and sold back to you piece by piece as DLC.

no^

its a very broad term. let me provide you one example: that online game you love so much, but how you don't run your own server to host games? the server that hosts your game is a live service.

That game you love so much where you will sometimes download updates as soon as they are pushed live, rather than having to wait for a prescribed date to download? that is a live service

What post #2 is talking about is SaaS games, such as google stadia or xbox game pass. That is a live service

Yeah, usually it's always online and is steadily fed bits of updates over time, even if it's got a heavy single player element. It's so you're enticed to constantly be farming something due to fomo and eventually once they decide that's that, you lose it all due to servers or an account.

It also never really ends, as they add more and more to the story in content updates. Think Destiny 1 and 2, where they just started dragging it on and even started to fully remove content "because it's old and who cares, screw you"

I use Destiny 1 and 2 as a vague rough example, there's actually other/better ones I could have picked but I'm lazy.

Darkspore is a strange example but I guess it is. What I think it is, is when you can't play a game you bought anymore. I like Ross Scott but he is really hard into this stuff. So he'd describe it better than me.

I know Secret World also said pay now play forever. You can still play that game even if Funcom gave up on it twice.

Any game that regularly releases content updates so that you keep coming back for months and hopefully drop even more money into it. Any MMO or multiplayer game with a battle pass for example.

Usually a multiplayer game that has 'seasons' and/or 'battle passes' where they introduce new maps, new content, new weapon/character skins, for a price (normally). It's meant to entice you to keep playing for months or years while continually giving the developers/publisher money.

It's just a way to get gamers addicted to their game so it basically becomes their life.

The endless stream of added content and updates and micro-transactions and whatnot.
It's a constant grind. And you won't want to miss any of it.
