also, i argue the latter is worse because it's unpredictable. When a friend is always 10mins late, you can set your watch to it.

now, i have another friend, who is late every.single.time., and often by 1-2 hours. At this point hangouts with him are mere "we're gonna be here, come if you want, we're leaving by X"

really depends on what "sometimes" is. i mean, if it's really not often, then yeah being late once in a while for a long time doesn't really seem so annoying. that's life. but if it's like a meeting that happens everyday and the boss is always late like 7 minutes but expects you to be there on time, then yeah that's really annoying.

Oftentimes the consequences for being a little late can be minimal. I'd imagine those minimal consequence scenarios would be the bulk of chronically late by a short amount of time scenarios.

Sometimes late by long amount of time risks bigger misses for the times the person is late.
