(Spoilers for the game and side quests)

So some time back I got Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen for $5 on the Switch eShop (it's always on sale for $5 from what I've seen)

I finished the main game content and side quests yesterday but before I got into it, I decided to spoil myself a bit to look into romance cause I am a sucker for romance options in video games.

At first I thought maybe Quinoa was the "canon" option but in her side quests she becomes a nun and fucks off somewhere and I'm just like ok maybe not.

So I do more side quests and it turns out every major girl basically does this in some way and I had to watch Mercedes Benz, Marmalade and Princess Peach all walk away (this one was very weird for me cause they kiss and the game seems to treat this relationship with more affection than any other even though they only know each other for 5 minutes)

So in the end I go with poor little Selene as my Pawn calls her (hope she's not actually underage or something) and since I know the affinity system is wonky, I make sure Selene is the last person I talk to before anything major happens and it works, I get to see her flailing about like a floppy fish about to get Goblin'd, that was pretty funny ngl.

Only for the game to end with the last scene featuring Marmalade instead and I'm very confused but I guess I messed up at the last moment. I really wanted to buy some Conquerors Thingies from her cause I thought the next fight would be difficult and even though I did talk to Smelline after, I guess her affinity was less than Marmalade even with having gifted her the Arisen Bondage. Maybe I was supposed to give it to her again?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel kinda cucked by the game after that and I hear Dragon's Dogma 2 is gonna be a thing so I hope you can romance your Pawn in that one because I had two Blue Moons in my pants all game cause she was so hot.

The Arisen's Bond doesn't actually make them your beloved automatically, it just maxes out their affinity. IIRC it's based on the last character you maxed the affinity with (which can be done by talking to them.)

I'm just glad you can cuck the Duke. I don't even like Aelinore, I just do it every time to stick it to the Duke. Because seriously, screw him.

It's pretty funny how you early on in the quest line, you can just walk out of prison and head directly to his audience chamber afterward and it's like it never happened.

And yes, I know there's "plot reasons", but it's still weird and awkward and funny.

Last I remember, you can "romance" almost any NPC in the game, though only certain ones have additional dialogue in the final scene.

I heard not even that annoying little girl from the Escort Duty quest is safe. The Arisen is a real freak if true. Not even her father is safe!

I think I tried to get Madeline, but I ended up with THE INNKEEPER BECAUSE I TALKED TO HIM A LOT.

I hate that fucker. Actually the true villain in the game. Hides under your bed and sniffs your socks.

According to the wiki, the only ones you can't make your beloved are the Duke, Sofiah, The Dragonforged, and characters from Bitterblack Isle.

Most Pawns cannot be beloved; however, Barnaby, Johnathan, and Selene are exceptions.

Aw c'mon. Make your Arisen a tall muscle mommy/daddy or a BBW/BBM and give that poor jester some lovin'.

First time I finished the game, I had no idea about any of this and my romance ended up being Fournival (the merchant with the walrus mustache). It was actually really convenient because in post-game he's unavailable at certain parts of the day and he sells really important stuff that you occasionally need to replenish.

It was so forced and dumb I don't know why it existed in the first place but then the story wasn't that great anyway tbh

Also the anime is hilariously bad
