Why? You thought it would be cool to come into this thread and brag about being a thief. Nothing else is needed to make a determination about the quality of human you are.

I wasnt bragging, it was just a random comment

didnt realize CE would go to bat for greedy billionaires because of a little petty theft

it is funny that tons of people talk about pirating shows instead of paying Amazon an extra $3 to not watch ads but none of them got harassed

If you have the scan as you shop sure, but getting a huge buggy full of heavy things having to unload and scan them all then bag and rebuggy them by yourself can be very annoying imo. It would be nice if they offered a discount or something.
Some huge holes in this.

If you are shopping for heavy shit, the cashier doesn't unload that shit and reload it for you either. And they certainly don't bag it as it would break the bag.

So my next question is, what are you classifying as, "heavy."

That isn't what she asked you.

An IOU slip doesn't magically save you the money you wasted driving down to the store to find it out of stock. She asked you about the time and gas you wasted driving to the store to find the item you wanted not there forcing you to drive back up there.

An IOU/rain check doesn't change that beyond guaranteeing you a possible sale price.

Since we are complaining about "unpaid labor."

Even if I entertain some bagger asked this of you most of the time (I doubt it), you still took shit to your call the rest of the time.

I apologize for misunderstanding their question. Some jobs do let you charge gas and driving as expenses, but we are not employees of the grocery store so no I dont think that, thankfully many stores do have delivery services so if I want someone to shop for me and save gas I can order that way. But again I am not an employee of the store I am a customer. my part is to buy their products at hugely marked up prices to cover their overhead, but with less and less overhead and prices just getting higher, I cant help but feel a bit used especially when they provided such service not long ago.

Groceries stores in the past had employees to unload trucks, stock shelves, check you out, bag your groceries, but these companies are looking for every way they can cut these employees, with robots to stock shelves, and unload trucks, and getting customers to check themselves out and bag their stuff. For all this cut in cost it doesnt reflect back to the customers in anyway as prices dont go down, so even if it is easy it is still free labor they once paid for. Heck offer a small discount on self checkout and I would be happier.

Also remember not everyone is the same, there are individuals that need help due to disabilities, or impairments so for some bagging groceries can be very difficult.

What on earth are you even talking about here..... you are wildly all over the place to the point that I'm convinced you are intentionally avoiding her question. That and intentionally being dense bringing up services that are optional to use like delivery.

I'll stop you right there. Your "part" is only to buy their shit if you so choose to buy it. How you buy their shit is completely on you (delivery, or physically going there to buy it under their store operation.) They don't owe you anything else you feel entitled to, and they certainly didn't make you shop there.

To this, you're just being intentionally dense. Most grocery stores provide disability services within reasonable means. You bringing them up irrelevant to you simply not liking self check out and thinking its unpaid labor to checkout your own things. Which circles back to Ashs point about other so called "unpaid labor" you do like driving up to the store, going aisle to aisle to get your own things, taking your own things to your car, driving home with your things, and more.

Same. I scan everything as I take it off the shelf, and then just scan one barcode at self checkout.

Heavy

Drinks, turkeys, litter bags, meat, 30-50 pound bags of dog food. Cement blocks, ply board, lumber, tools, (I have a home depot near me that is only self checkout now unless youre a contractor)

Heck sometimes they don't have that scanner gun thing or someone broke it.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I went to Kroger and had two buggies filled with groceries and they had nothing open but self checkout one of those really small ones, I asked the store manager if they could open a lane but they said the worker at the self checkout will help you if you need it. Of course they had wandered off so I had to ring it all up myself.

As to why it should create a discount is because they used to pay two or more people to do the job, but now expect me to do it for free, and there is no cut in groceries cost, so it is just pure profit to them. Also some people have disabilities that can make such tasks harder than for others.

That other stuff like gas and what not is just part of shopping, but it used to be you go to the store to get things you need, and there were employees there to help you and your money helped pay their salaries for their service, now you pay even more, no one is there to help, and your money just goes to the owner who is somewhere making cash angels.

Most people arent even done faster because of the item not in baggage area prompt alone. Its only more convenient and faster if you got a handful of items.

plus the whole unpaid labor thing which I think is bogus since its typically a few minutes a week. But Id rather have a half dozen cashiers then one cashier and 6 self checkout machines.

I do apologize for being confusing, and hard to follow, thinking is not my strong suit as I have brain damage so focusing my thoughts is not the easiest thing for me at times.

I will Ill try and keep it simple as possible. I view it as free labor because they used to pay for said labor, but now dont. As to driving and what not, my reward for that was the products I needed, but now I have to jump through even more hoops to get it with no extra benefit whatsoever, and only higher and higher costs.

If you have that scan and go thing that sounds nice, but when you dont, having to take everything out of a full buggy to scan at a tiny register while possibly getting repeatedly yelled at by the machine to remove then add something to the bagging area over and over (thankfully this seems to be greatly reduced now) is not nice imo.

The self checkout being faster is an illusion. There are usually more self checkouts open. I always see when I'm waiting to checkout since some of the stores near me don't really have staffed checkouts anymore that there will be a few people taking way too long to find barcodes and then only start to slowly bag things after they pay. It's way more frustrating.

And if you need assistance for anything when checking out? Good luck getting the attention of the employee who is supposed to be looking over the self checkouts since they're usually not paying attention and just have their earbuds cranked up so they can't hear anything either

In my store at least its faster.

Manned counter:
  • take items from cart and put them on the conveyor
  • move towards front
  • person is scanning
  • do you want paid store tickets?
  • do you want free store tickets?
  • do you want the receipt?
  • bag items
  • leave

Self checkout:
  • take from cart and scan and bag in a single movement
  • tap card
  • leave

Yes, this makes them faster because you wait less time overall.

At least at my Walmart, there are maybe 3-5 cashiers working at a time. Each one probably has 4+ people waiting at a time during normal traffic hours.

Meanwhile, the single line leading to the 6 self check outs moves faster than each of those cashier lines. Because while the cashiers generally work faster than the self checkouts on a 1:1 comparison...

The self checkout lane is serving 6 people at a time. It's like playing an RTS like starcraft.

If you have one barracks, it would take 6 minutes to make 6 marines. (Not accurate game time, just simplified)

But if you build six barracks, you can make six marines in one minute.

Even if you double the speed of the single barracks, keeping the other 6 at the same speed as before, having 6 of them will still be twice as efficient.

That's how it works with self checkout. Each person is individually slower than the cashier, but they're served at 6 times the rate.
