Like it would be an alternate mix or they would have a different music video for the US. What was up with that?

If I recall, there were different rules for what constituted a single, EP, or album in the UK, for charting purposes. Some record companies tried to game it by releasing two-part singles, remixes as different singles, etc.

There are two versions of The Beatles Rubber Soul.

And it is one case where I like the US version more.
The US version has a drastically more folk-oriented play list, as Folk music was blowing up at the time in The States.
