I don't think there was a single person who wanted a Suicide Squad video game wanted to kill the Justice League. I remember when the game was announced, everyone was thinking it was gonna be like...a red herring of a title or something and you were gonna save them. Because, like...it's Superman. It's Flash. It's Batman. People don't want to kill the Justice League. Especially not as Deadshot, Harley, Boomerang, and Shark.

It feels like they didn't learn a lesson from the failure of the original Suicide Squad. Or learn one from the sequel. People like villains, but you gotta earn their love of these characters. None of the characters besides Harley are known in this universe, we know about Harley only because of the Arkham games. They never earned our interest, they're just these random villains with next to no redeeming qualities. That's one of the biggest mistake of the original Suicide Squad compared to it's sequel. People learned to love the group of them. Even the evil ones, people cared about them(Peacemaker). They earned it.

In the game you got 4 annoying characters you can't enjoy at all that are killing off characters who have spent years earning people's affection.

Should have had just a random villain. The moment they picked the Justice League, it's fate was sealed imho.

They built a suicide squad idea in Origins and completely bailed on that.

Should have just been an arkham game with different villains and you're taking down bad guys, like the other games on the series, instead of shooting red nodes on an enemy 100 times.

No it really had nothing to do with any of that. It failed because it was a bad game

People were pretty hyped about it during initial reveal. When all we knew was the suicide squad was trying to kill the justice league since they had been taken over. What killed it was the second gameplay was revealed.

The story concept was fine and could have sold games. It would have rightfully been shat on when people actually saw the story but it wasn't the story that doomed the game. It was the gameplay model.

Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.

Kinda, yeah.

The appeal of the characters exists, but only for those that already know them. The budget they set aside for the game was always going to be way too much for comic book nerds alone to carry it, though.

The producers shoving for a large scale, long term, live service game don't understand that you can't just jump in with these kinds of concepts and expect recognition alone to carry it. They just see potential dollar signs and scream to do the thing that might maybe if they're lucky will make them a shitzillion dollars.

From what I hear, the gameplay is actually the best part of the game. I hear it's very, very fun and fluid.

Not from what I saw personally, people were in absolute denial that they were gonna kill the JL.

Nah, I think you're over indexing on just how many diehard capeshit bros there are. I enjoy DC and Marvel and I couldn't give two shits about superheroes dying. The game flopped because of it being a shitty live service game with very uninspired repetitive and bare bones gameplay. Comic nerds with their weird para social relationships wish it failed because of the narrative, but honestly it was it simply just being nothing fun to play.

I mean, most of the discourse online was about the story on launch day. Not about the gameplay. The gameplay, by all accounts, is the most praised aspect of the game.

Because we'd seen the gameplay months ago and already clowned on it. The story was new.

Yeah, it's basically TLOU2 all over again. Except unlike TLOU2, the game is actually bad.

My biggest problem about the story wasn't that you had to kill the Justice League... More of how rushed it was... You get through the league members very quickly to get to Brainiac but then they pull this whole "you have to kill 13 Brainiacs from other universes to completely finish him off!" but the game "ends" after the first one... I'm guessing the next 12 will be tied to the future content updates/Seasons...

The premise was awful from the very beginning. Nobody was actually excited for this game from the jump.

Borderlands-style Suicide Squad was never the issue and is an extremely appealing concept. It's the live service drip feed that's the problem.

Imagine if it was just a single-player story-focused kind of game where each character had more unique abilities. Game probably would have been much better received. But they HAD to chase the GAAS carrot.

At the end of the day these characters aren't THAT popular, the gameplay loop is mid as fuck, the monetization is bullshit, and there's lots and LOTS of better games available elsewhere. Why would people marry themselves to THIS game unless they're absolute DC fanatics?

It never made sense - totally feels like something corpos up top pushed down to the devs and said "Do this." Well that blew up and the studio might not GET to make another game. Wow great job.
