Eco-terrorist group that probably killed 100s of civilians blowing up the reactor, are Barret and Cloud really good people? Barret has a daughter to think about and Cloud's just a flat out mercenary, sounds like scum if you ask me.

I haven't played ff7 since the 90s. Does the game say there were civilian deaths? I would hope that Cloud and Barret would try to avoid that

The main branch of Avalanche mostly seen in the Remake expac that was against terrorism in the first place?

Remake FVII's Avalanche's destruction was solely because of Shinra, who used it to make Avalanche look despicable but in OG FFVII it was all Avalanche baby.

I'd say that they were the lesser of the two evils but I'm a pacifist so I disagree with their views but know that it takes those actions to fight something as big as Shinra.

Cloud or Barret doesnt bring it up but I just played through the beginning and there are NPCs that talk about innocents dying in the bombing

Sector 8(I think it was that sector) had a lot of destruction near the city. A lot of buildings were falling apart and electric currents above. You can safely say there had to be a few civi deaths.

I'm referring to the OG game btw, not sure if they downplayed Cloud and Avalanche's atrocities in the remake

in the Remake, Jessie's bomb doesn't go off and the Shinra president tells the soldiers to create a bigger explosion by shooting at the reactor to make it worse. The explosion wasn't supposed to be as big as it was so it made Avalanche look like they were trying to stop civilian casualties.

I think those guards are REALLY loyal for the low pay they are getting.

They do. It's retconned that they were only going to destroy the core of the reactor with no external damage to avoid hurting civilians, but Shinra sabotaged it to make it into the massive explosion so they could pin it on Avalanche.

yeah, I think it was also changed because of how the world has changed lately and it would be weird to play as a terrorist group as the good guys and they were probably trying to cover their ass, especially with all the terrorism that became a much bigger deal in America between then and now.

in all fairness, Remake is a sequel to the original. A lot of the game you are trying to defy fate by trying to overturn what happened in the first game with a lot of expected repercussions

FWIW, while the Remake does show that Shinra increased the size of the explosion, none of Avalanche is really all that broken up about it. Jesse is the only one who shows any kind of remorse because she was the one who built the bomb and even then it's only mild. I'm pretty sure Barret even justifies it. Tifa is pretty horrified, but she wasn't on the first mission and still agrees to go on the second.

I don't remember any discussion about not bombing a second reactor. The only thing that happens is Jesse steals a different sort of component for the next bomb because she thinks she fucked up making the original one.

So they're not actually at fault, but they're still morally at fault, you know?

They sound like people I'd be scared of irl.
