Or gen 4 in general. I'm not really training them for anything in particular. It sort of reminds me of mindless levelling on Runescape.
Right now I'm training up a Rotom and a Swampert.

It's been years since I played those, but some strong 'Mons I remember using:

Machamp, with No Guard and I think it's Dynamic Punch? Low chance to hit, but No Guard means it will hit, and it's got some beefy damage.

Kingler with Crab Hammer. High damage physical water attack, and I think it has a good crit chance. Kingler being a water type means it has STAB also, of course. He was on my team the first time I fought the Elite Four, and when he got a crit it did DAMAGE.

Alakazam. Nothing fancy, I gave mine the item that increases Special attack damage but only allows one move. Train him in EVs for Speed and Special Attack and his Psychic does some fucking damage.

Garchomp. Cookie cutter, of course, but high speed and attack + STAB on Dragon moves and Earthquake means he's a heavy hitter and will usually go first

And of course, the Man. The Myth. The DRAGONITE. Use Dragon Dance, then Outrage. Watch your enemy die. Give him a Lum berry so when he gets confused, it goes away automatically.

...I'm sure I had a fire type, but I can't remember who it was. My original Elite Four team was Alakazam, Kingler, Ampharos, Machamp...and two more I can't remember.

This. Psychic is master race.

I have a handful of those. I have a No Guard Machamp, Alakazam, Garch. Salamence instead of Dragonite but I could make a Dragonite too.
Does Dragonite have anything over a choice scarf Outrage spamming Garchomp?

I should have said this is an old file that already has a handful of the usual suspects (Skarm, Gyarados, Scizor, the predictable stuff). The Rotom I'm training is from 2010. Over a decade later I am giving it the EV training I originally meant to.

Teach a Smeargle Fly, Surf, and two more HMs. It's not for fighting of course, it's just the funniest HM specialist.

Hey how does Latios work in this? It's still roaming. Is its nature fixed as soon as it spawns in or could I trade over a master ball and keep rerolling for modest?

P sure it's fixed once you encounter it. Might be able to reset it by killing it and beating the E4 again though.

I don't know if that's how it works in the new games but these older ones are pretty harsh about one-off legendary Pokemon. Not chancing it.

If I remember correct mine also knew Thunderbolt and Fly, which gives you options against Water/Flying as well as Fighting types. Thunderbolt is ezpk against Gyarados

Dragonite doesn't have that much spatk or a move to boost it though right?
Speaking of Fly though, maybe I could make something really obnoxious that uses toxic then alternates between Protect and Dig/Fly.

Also unrelated. I've played Voltorb flip and grinded up 3800 coins. This is pretty slow. Is there a way to directly buy the coins like there was in the original GSC?

Nah. I used it pretty much only against Lance's Gyarados. 4x weakness means it hurts regardless.

Looked it up and special pokeymans do respawn after E4. Including roaming ones, Snorlax, and Sudowoodo. Also roaming guys have their natures set at the event that releases (or respawns) them, not when you first encounter them.

I've been using the E4 to level Swampert and using the route next to Vermillion to look for Latios, can you explain why Snorlax hasn't reappeared?

Did you kill it or catch it? It's not gonna respawn if you caught it. Anyway, I always heard that legendary pokeymans respawned after beating E4 in gen 4 and serebii and the hgss board confirm that much.

Edit: Serebii says Snorlax reappears after fighting the E4 "again," so idk if it needs to be the rematch version if that's a thing in HGSS.

I've just discovered this Pokeathlon place.
I really sped through the game when it first came back. There's a bunch of trainers I avoided and now this.
I'd heard of it but I assumed it was something to do with that Pokewalker thing. Worth trying out?

I tried the Pokeathlon. It's touch screen minigames.
I did the power course and it was kinda eh, didn't like it.
It lets you bring legendaries and use them though. I just stomped the stamina course with Swampert, Ho-oh and Groudon which was kind of funny so maybe there's hope.

I have a bunch of legendaries kicking around on other gen 4 Pokemon games. I probably have 3 that're good at every event.

Edit: Prizes could be better. Evo stones are handy especially this early in the game, but the lone metal coat makes it weird. Shouldn't there be Upgrades and Razor Fangs and Electrizers there too?

Random questions.
Do wild Pokemon or ones you obtain otherwise come with built-in EVs? I got bored of Voltorb Flip and bought the Eevee. The one it gave me might have made a decent Umbreon but it's lv15 and that makes me assume it's already got some points in something.

And does the day care add EVs or ruin your Pokemon beyond messing with their moveset?

I accidentally created a Pokemon time capsule.
I went to Pal Park to send some things over from Sapphire and found out there were already Pokemon in there from 2010, waiting to be caught.
It was surreal vaguely recognising the nicknames. Very sure they came from Leaf Green.

All Pokemon come with 0 EVs. It's just the training/vitamins that give EVs.

Daycare only gives exp, so no worries about messing up your EV training. As for their movesets, just reallocate the order before putting them into the daycare. I forget if the moves are learned from bottom to top or top to bottom, so just put the moves you want to keep in the middle and see which way they're pushed when you take the Pokemon out again.

That's handy. I've sent a master ball from Sapphire to Soul Silver so maybe I could find something to repeatedly catch until it has a good nature.

Weird they don't let you send over Pokemon with HMs, what's that about? I was going to send over a Ralts because I have a shiny stone in my inventory I might as well use, but it knows flash so that's not happening. Trapinch it is.

Try teaching Flash to another of your Pokemon first. I believe this is a softlock prevention so that you can't end up in a place you shouldn't be able to access otherwise without certain HMs.

They don't want you softlocking yourself by sending out HM 'mons in places or situations where you wouldn't be able to catch more.

Ah that makes sense. Being stuck in Sootopolis City without Surf, Dive or Fly is the first thing to mind.

I'm playing Leaf Green with the intent of collecting things to send over to HGSS. It has a Master Ball from Pal Park yesterday so I'm thinking of using this game's Master Ball on Zapdos until I get one with a good ability.
I'm trying to think of more things to do on HGSS. I'm no good with the Pokeradar and I don't think collecting Unowns would be much fun.

Oh wow.
I just found out about the 2 lucky machines in the FRLG game corner.
I could have had Ice Beam and Thunderbolt and whatever other TMs they have here all this time. I could be sending rare TMs over to HGSS. This is way more satisfying than Voltorb Flip.
