These days I would worry more about the GPU / VRAM.

Back when I was a Boy my family only gave me 64K, and I was told that would never get maxed out.

Around 30gb would probably be a better idea.

This. It's slightly overkill right now, but it won't be for long. That's just future proofing, especially if it's ddr5

I don't think there's much use to future proofing RAM. Having more memory than you need has no benefit. It's not like a cpu where more power always equates to faster loading.

By the time 64gb becomes a standard requirement, it's probably cheaper to buy the extra sticks then. Assuming there isn't another pandemic or chip shortage that ruins pricing that is.

With a top of the line computer, running the most demanding games. I only use about 15GB at the most. You don't need that much at all anymore.

Yeah, depends on your use case. Probably don't need that much, but it's not like RAM is that expensive currently. Might be nice to have if you want to do something RAM heavy with your computer in the future.

nah, I'd say it's probably more than most people would need but it's definitely not overkill.
overkill would be like 128gb on a gaming rig. 64gb is more than enough for gaming, but it never hurts to have more wiggle room.

There's no such thing as future proofing PCs. The best way to future proof a PC is to just buy in the future when what you're currently looking at is cheaper. This is especially true for RAM and storage space.

I'll just say right now, I have Firefox opened with like 30 tabs that I use half of, an editing software, a recording software, and like Helldivers 2 on max setting, with about 10 background programs for other things and even more other processes, and I don't ever go past about 70% of maxing that out

64 GB you literally have to be purposely wasteful to use. Without creating content and multitasking, even 16 GB is plenty
