I just upped my monthly contribution for my 401k >_> I procrastinated on that for like a year. I really should've done it earlier.

Financially Im set. I make good money in a low cost of living area. My house is completely paid off, my vehicle is paid off and my only monthly bills are required monthly bills. I live pretty damn cheap. Im just stockpiling cash into investments month after month. Money isnt going to keep me working, insurance coverage will.

If something were to ever change and insurance was taken care of, Id retire much earlier. I have excellent retirement through my work. They contribute 200% of what I put in monthly. My retirement fund is quite nice at this stage.

I've got some money, a 401k with match and a pseudo-pension from my current job, but basically pinning it all on inheritance from my wife's parents to have anything more than a barebones retirement.

You talking about paying for health, car, house insurance? Yeah, health insurance is crazy expensive if you don't have benefits from a job.

Health insurance. I have excellent health insurance free through my work. I turn 48 in about a month. If I could keep free health insurance Id retire in my mid 50s probably and be quite comfortable. But Im not going to retire and just pay health insurance out of pocket until later. Screw that. So its the insurance that will keep me working. Im not working for the pay.

I'll probably be in the same boat >_> I get good health insurance for free from my job and I don't want to lose that. After struggling to pay for it on my own beforehand, I dont want to go back to that. It was so expensive

I'll definitely be able to retire. My wife and I are in a pretty great spot financially, and assuming the market is on an upswing when I'm ready to cash out on my IRA and 401k, There shouldn't be a dip in how I live either.

House will be paid off in about 7 years, and I probably have at least 10 more years of working after that. That's $1700 that starting in 2031 will be straight savings instead of paying a mortgage. Investing $20k a year instead of paying a mortgage is pretty significant.

Not at all. I will in about 5 more years though. If its reasonable Id do it. I also have the ability to utilize VA health insurance as a veteran but I live in a sparsely populated area of the Midwest and dont feel like driving long distances just to see a Dr. But its always an option.

We're basically set to retire whenever we want. The plan is to retire once the younger twins go to college, at which point we'd probably spend good chunks of the summers at a cottage in Michigan, winters at a yet-to-be-determined spot in Curaao, and most of the springs and falls either in our current home or downsizing to a smaller house or likely condo in Chicago.

It's okay. I'm a government employee, so I'll be set once I retire. It could have been better though, had I started working for the government sooner.

Like, right now if I wait until 63 years old to retire, I'll get 79.8% of my salary as my monthly retirement. But had I started working for the government right at 18, I would have been able to retire at 56 years old with roughly the same percentage.

Doing ok. If I put in 11% of salary, my employer puts in a further 16%. Started late but I've been way above this for the last 5 years.

If I were to put in any more than I'm putting in at the moment I'd be at risk of exceeding the lifetime maximum.

Yup. I should be in the clear WELL before retirement age.

The housing market crash during Bush Jr's tenure helped me refinance at a great APR, and we just kept making the same payment, paying down the principle and basically knocking 7 years off my mortgage.
