Actively squinting at the tv, willing it to be good.

So far i'm just sort of having exactly the same feeling I have watching any of the Disney live-action remakes, where I go "huh that's neat, I remember this scene from the cartoon" and then immediately feeling disappointed in how it didn't quite hit the mark.

Take Iroh. He's not a bad character in the remake at all, but he's just not Iroh.

Azula is all kinds of wrong, but they were never gonna get that one right.

Then there's Sokka. He's apparently the standout character in this show, but I don't remember Sokka being a captain-of-the-football-team jerk archetype.

The secret tunnel song was just cringe this time around. It was a nod to fans but in a cynical, winking at the audience way.

I actually think one thing that is pretty good is how they've taken several episodic storylines and tied them all together into a single storyline. So Jet being in ba-sing-se and that storyline crossing over with Sai and the badgermoles. i actually think this was a very neat way to tick off several moments that are important to fans but completely irrelevant to the overall plot.

He kind of was early in the show.

I always saw it more like Sokka wanted to be this big alpha chad kind of guy, and no one took him seriously because he just wasn't being his authentic self.

Whereas the character in the show actually has that sort of energy.

Oh, I don't get big alpha chad energy from the live action Sokka at all. He's just tryin' real hard to be a warrior.
