Hell of a game. Not only did they correct the mistakes made in Yakuza 6 and give Kiryu the proper sendoff he deserves, but they did it all in adventure that spans across 3 different cities in 2 different continents and adapting Kiryu's old beat'em up style to a turn based RPG. The combat is even further improved over Like a Dragon 7 by being better balanced and allowing you to move your character around before they take their action on their turn so you can actually line up your skills when you use them. Throw in a full Pokemon game and a full Animal Crossing game on the side and even minigames that evoke Pokemon Snap and Crazy Taxi and this is just one crazy 100+ hour adventure. Even though Ichiban is still the main character here, he kinda takes a back seat to seeing Kiryu's story to the end. He has his own plot on finding his mother, but he doesn't really have the character growth he had in 7. Still that's fine there were plenty of Yakuza games too where Kiryu didn't really change much from the beginning and the end. I'm sure he'll get his turn to shine again if there's ever a Like a Dragon 9. I loved how the final chapter brought out every trope there is not only in Yakuza games, but JRPGs in general.

The Platinum isn't quite 100% completion of everything, but pretty close to it. Beyond just finishing the story you're also maxing out the bonds with all your party members to see all their Drink Links, maxing out Kasuga's Personality traits and viewing 70+ of Kiryu's Remembrances to raise his Soul/Body/Mind. Also completing both optional dungeons, Completing 40 substories, doing the Photo Rally, completing all Sicko Snap courses, completing all Crazy Delivery courses, registering 200+ Sujimon to the Sujidex and defeating the Elite Four equivalent and creating a 5-Star island on Dondoko Island.

There's still 9 more trophies to earn in New Game+ Legend difficulty which features a new optional dungeon. I'll definitely be doing that too, but it's paid DLC we'll see when I find time for it. With FF7 Rebirth right around the corner I got a date with 19 inches of Sephiroth first. Overall though I would say this is my favorite game in the series and maybe even the best game SEGA has ever released. Best RPG it has a bit more competition, but it's up there.
