At my last retail job we had a corporate shakeup which left us with a new manager who was in his forties and only worked at the company, since he was a teenager. He was a fanboy for the company almost on the level as a gaming or wrestling fanboy and gloated about the fact that he commuted 2+ hours to and from the store each day.

We had instances where customers would be screaming at cashiers and sometimes insulting them, only for the customers to be rewarded with coupons. One time I got berated on the phone and when transferring it to the manager I said weve got a charmer on line four. I was taken into the office and reprimanded for saying that.

That seems to sum up American service, from what I understand. Luckily, when Ive worked those kinds of jobs, it was in Europe.
