If your devs aren't skilled at their jobs, no amount of time or money will get you a great product.

Not in 1000 years and with 10 billion dollars could a group of people who don't know wtf they're doing create a critically acclaimed video game. At the end of the day it's the quality of the development team themselves that decides things.

This is especially true when most of the team members that make a studio great up and leave, and then people expect the studio to keep pumping out hits like that didn't matter.

Given how production schedules work, if I hear a game has been in development 10 years it indicates there were some major problems along the way

Add FFXV to that list. Not a bad game, but when I think "aggressively mediocre", FFXV is the first title to pop into mind. For a game that was in development hell for a decade it was a huge disappointment.

Palworld devs consisted of 4 people who knew nothing and they did pretty damn good. >.>

Especially after all those trailers came out that hyped us for Versus and then we got what we got. Was ok but nothing like what they hyped us for. I had the exact same feeling for Starfield.
